Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two, spoiler free, “teaser” sentences
  • Share the title & author
“Chick Lit reads as an intermediary between the success story and the mental illness narrative, especially as much of the ‘early’ chick lit of the late 1990s did not conclude with a romantic ending. Chick lit of the late 1990s has been referred to as ‘dump literature’ by Barbara Defoe Whitehead, as the novels concerned themselves chiefly with the fallout of a breakup and the protagonist’s attempt to come to terms with it through writing.” (p. 137, Print).

  1. Hm. I think I’d have to read the book itself before deciding whether that teaser is something I could agree with, or something that would make me want to toss the book at the wall. 🙂 I’m also not wild about the “post-feminism” in the title, ha!

It’s a very intriguing teaser, to provoke that kind of curiosity. Good choice!

My own teaser, which provokes a bit less I’m afraid, is at Bookishgal.
