Hi Christine! I used to be a terrible procrastinator. Well, sometimes I still am. But a few years ago, I heard something very profound. Perfectionism is a symptom of low self-esteem. Now, I never would have thought I had low self-esteem. But when it came to certain things (like my writing) I felt it had to be PERFECT and as a result, I never finished any of my projects. So, I did a lot of self-analysis and was finally able to let go of the whole trying-to-be-perfect syndrome and leaned to just be my best. It was liberating! Now, I'm not saying I am going to lower my standards, but I'm no longer comparing my work to that of others'. A bad review used to devastate me. Now, I just shrug them off. You can't be perfect. Better to be your best. :-)

I didn't get a job once because my "skirt was too short". I was told later when I called the HR women and begged her to tell me why, when I was so absurdly over-qualified, that I didn't get the part time teller job. I was wearing my Mom's suit for the interview and she, at the time was a bank manager at a different branch. So I thought the suit was more than appropriate for the interview. I suppose the skirt rode up a bit when I sat down because of my newly pregnant belly. Totally utterly unfair. Catty women can be lame about cute outfits too.

But street harassment....one time I pulled over and got out of my car to move a big long tree branch out of the road and a few of the few cars that whizzed past me as I dragged the branch to the side, seemed to be full of nasty dudes who had never seen a young woman dragging a branch out of the road, and thought it was a great idea to yell "hey baby" type calls...ugh.

Lucie, Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! I am so ready for things to change. I think this next year is going to be really significant, which is kind of super scary but also exciting. And hey, I get to keep talking about chick-lit, how cool is that?
