“And Clarissa remembered having to persuade her not to denounce him at family  prayers – which she was capable of doing with her daring, her recklessness, her melodramatic love of being the centre of everything and creating scenes, and it was bound, Clarissa used to think, to end in some awful tragedy; her death; her martyrdom; instead of which she had married, quite unexpectedly, a bald man with a large buttonhole who owned, it was said, cotton mills at Manchester. And she had five boys!” (p.202, Print).
From Mrs. Dalloway by Virgina Woolf.

I have decided to cheat a little today since my current read is in another room and I am too lazy to get up. Instead, I share with you from a novel I recently finished and I think is beautiful in all it’s imagery.

“On the days that the radio played Ammu’s songs, everyone was a little wary of her. They sensed somehow that she lived in the penumbral shadows between two worlds, just beyond the grasp of their power. That a woman that they had already damned, now had little left to lose, and could therefore be dangerous.” (44, Print).
From The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.

“We stare into each other’s blazing eyes for a moment, then he catches my face in both hands and kisses me hard. The explosion of heat and hunger between us takes me over and all I can do is kiss him back.” (p. 168, eBook).

“More than once did Elizabeth, in her ramble within the park, unexpectedly meet Mr. Darcy. She felt all the perverseness of the mischance that should bring him where no one else was brought, and, to prevent its ever happening again, took care to inform him at first that it was a favourite haunt of hers. How it could occur a second time, therefore, was very odd!” (p.167, eBook).

“He emailed me every single time I skipped his English class, which was every day for months, telling me what we’d done and that he’d missed my comments on whatever story they’d studied, and every email ended with the same thing. “If you need to talk, I’m here.” (p. 94, eBook).
